If you’re anything like me, you need to have a basic, go-to beanie pattern. Whether is for a friends baby shower, gift, or as a donation to your local hospital or charity. Well, friends, I decided it was finally time for me to sit down and fully write out a pattern for a basic “go-to” beanie for the entire family! That’s right, you’ll be able to knit up this beanie for a small preemie all the way up to the man of the house.

For my “Go-To” knitted beanie I decided to use one of my favorite yarns from Lion Brand, which just so happens to be Lion Brand Jeans yarn in the color Top Stitch (Hello, Cottage Socks)! This yarn is SO soft and honestly perfect for knitted beanies!

I do have a few notes to point out before we go into the written pattern.

  1. I tend to knit with tight tension. ALWAYS check your gauge before starting any pattern, especially mine. Lol! Lion Brand has a great blog post explaining everything you need to know about gauge and how to measure your gauge for a pattern. - http://www.lionbrand.com/how-to-knit-making-a-gauge-swatch

  2. Interchangeable circular knitting needles are a lifesaver for this particular pattern. I just love to use my Clover Takumi Interchangeable Bamboo circular knitting needle set for most of my knitting patterns. The main reason I recommend Interchangeable needles is because you will need to change needle sizes part way through the pattern, as well as a cord if you will be working the magic loop method towards the end. Interchangeable needles make this process super easy and painless.

Closing Beanie

Cut a tail 6-7” long. Thread the tail with your tapestry needle, weave the needle through the remaining 8sts on your needles. Remove the needles, pull tight to cinch the hole closed. Insert the needle through the center of the hole into the inside of the beanie, thread it through a few stitches, tie a knot. Fasten off, weave in ends.
