Kelby Sweater - Free Crochet Pattern and YARN GIVEAWAY

As most of you know I LOVE making, wearing, designing, admiring, any oversized sweater. The Kelby sweater is JUST THAT. I wanted to make an off the shoulder, slouchy sweater that works for all seasons, using a large crochet hook and velvety soft (literally!) this sweater has a beautiful open stitch drape. To say I’m obsessed would be an understatement.

Notes:

Sweater is worked in 4 separate panels. Neck ribbing is done last.

Size adjustments are listed as such (XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL)

Materials:

8.00mm Crochet Hook

2.5-5 Balls Lion Brand Vel-Luxe yarn in Dusty Pink. Amount used depends on size.

Scissors

Yarn Needle

Gauge:

Using a 8.00mm Crochet Hook

9 Half Double Crochet Stitches = 4”

7 Half Double Crochet Rows = 4”


Sizing:

Choose your exact bust measurement, pattern is worked with 11” of positive ease. If you are between sizes I suggest sizing down.

XS - 28-30”

S - 32-34”

M - 36-38”

L - 40-42”

XL - 44-46”

2XL - 48-50”

Pattern:

Front & Back Panel (Make Two):

Band -

Ch7

R1 - Turn, SC into the 2nd Ch from the hook and across (6)

R2 - Ch1, Turn, SC BLO across (6)

Repeat Row 2 for a total of (38, 42, 46, 50, 54, 60) Rows

Continue to body.

Body -

Note: We will now be working along the top of the band.

R1 - Ch1, Turn, SC into each row across the band (38, 42, 46, 50, 54, 60)

R2 - Ch1, Turn, HDC across (38, 42, 46, 50, 54, 60)

Repeat Row 2 for a total of (32, 32, 36, 40, 40, 44) Rows OR until you have reached your desired length.

Continue to shoulders.

Shoulders -

R(33, 33, 37, 41, 41, 45) - Ch1, Turn, HDC into the next (10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 20) Stitches.

R(34, 34, 38, 42, 42, 46) - Ch1, Turn, HDC back across (10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 20)

Repeat row (34, 34, 38, 42, 42, 46) two more times.

Fasten off.

Attach yarn on the other end of your work, (without the shoulder portion) (10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 20) Stitches in from the edge.

Note: The first row will be worked from the attached stitch to the edge.

R(33, 33, 37, 41, 41, 45) - Ch1, Turn, HDC into the next (10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 20) Stitches.

R(34, 34, 38, 42, 42, 46) - Ch1, Turn, HDC back across (10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 20)

Repeat row (34, 34, 38, 42, 42, 46) two more times.

Fasten off.

Sleeves (Make Two) -

Note: Sleeves are worked from the cuff up to the widest point.

Cuff Band -

Ch7

R1 - Turn, SC into the 2nd Ch from the hook and across (6)

R2 - Ch1, Turn, SC BLO across (6)

Repeat Row 2 for a total of (22) Rows

Continue to Sleeve.

Sleeve -

Note: We will now be working along the top of the band.

R1 - Ch1, Turn, SC into each row across the band (22)

R2 - Ch1, Turn, HDC across (22)

R3 - Ch1, Turn, HDC INC, HDC across until one stitch remains, HDC INC (24)

Notes:

  1. Between increases repeated Row 2.

  2. Each increase row should increase by 2 Stitches

Repeat row 3 (The Increasing Row) -

XS - Every 8th Row for 27 Rows, end with 5 HDC rows for a total of 32 Rows (30)

S - Every 5th Row for 28 Rows, end with 4 HDC rows for a total of 32 Rows (34)

M - Every 4th Row for 27 Rows, end with 5 HDC rows for a total of 32 Rows (36)

L - Every 4th Row for 31 Rows, end with 1 HDC rows for a total of 32 Rows (38)

XL - Every 43rd Row for 27 Rows, end with 5 HDC rows for a total of 32 Rows (40)

2XL -  Every 3rd Row for 30 Rows, end with 2 HDC rows for a total of 32 Rows (42)

Fasten off.

Seaming -

Notes -

  1. Use any seaming method you prefer. I will be using the mattress stitch.

  2. Blocking is recommended but not necessary before seaming.

Step 1 - Seam shoulder portions of each panel together.

Step 2 - Seam Sleeves perpendicular to each shoulder.

Step 3 - Seam from the band up to the cuff.

Neckline -

Attach yarn stitch along the back of the neckline.

Ribbing:

Ch7

R1 - SC into 2nd Ch from hook and across, Sl St into next 2 Sts (6)

R2 - Turn, SC BLO into single crochet stitches (6)

R3 - Ch1, Turn, SC BLO across, SL St into next 2 Sts (6)

Repeat rows 2 & 3 all the way around the neckline. Slip Stitch last row to the first row.

Fasten off, weave in ends.
